The Power of Positive Thinking

positive 2When we think about thinking positively we at times assume that it implies seeing the world through rose-colored glasses and ignoring the negative parts of life; but it’s more than that.  While it is good to focus on and appreciate the good things in our lives; positive thinking is also about approaching life’s challenges with a positive outlook. It’s about turning challenges into something positive, i.e. making the most out of a potentially bad situation, trying to see the best in other people, and viewing yourself and your abilities in a positive way.

Negative thoughts, words and attitude, create negative and unhappy feelings, moods, behavior, and stress. These negative attitudes and feelings can upset the bodies hormone balance and deplete the brain chemicals required for feelings of happiness.  This type of thought pattern leads to failure, frustration and disappointment.

Positive thinking like negative thinking can be contagious and affect our moods and how we interact with others.  However, when we begin to focus on the positive, we begin to experience pleasant and happy feelings. This brings brightness to our eyes, more energy to our bodies, and happiness to our hearts. Our whole being broadcasts good will, happiness and success. Even our health is affected in a beneficial way. We walk taller, we are more confident, and our body language shows the way we feel. Plus positive thinking helps broaden our prospective of the world and leads to more creativity, wonder, and options.

We are affected by the people we meet, in one wapositivey or another. This happens instinctively and on a subconscious level, through words, thoughts and feelings, and through body language; so it’s no wonder that we want to be around positive people, and prefer to avoid negative ones.

So why spend our time feeling upset, angry or frustrated. Instead shift our view to something more positive and see how our brain and bodies begin to respond.
